Operating an illegal online crypto trading platform may be grounds for extradition to the United States

A man in Israel ran a website called DeepDotWeb (DDW) to run an illegal cryptocurrency trading platform and, in return for a fee, allowed direct access to illegitimate trading platforms on the darknet, including access to trading platforms for dangerous drugs, weapons, and more. The man was prosecuted in the United States, which requested the State of Israel to extradite him.

The court ruled that the person must be extradited. For the purpose of extradition for a criminal offense, it is required, among other things, that the offense be considered an offense also in the State of Israel, even if only part of it was committed in Israel. Here, all the conditions for extradition are met, and even though the offense was committed via a website, since the United States claimed that it was also committed in the United States, this is sufficient to determine that the conditions for the extradition requirement are met.
