With over 20 years of experience in audit, taxation, and accounting in Algeria, Salim Azzouz has built my career around helping businesses navigate complex financial, tax, and regulatory environments with confidence.
Salim is the Founder of Tax Online at SPA AZZOUZ AUDIT & TAX FIRM, an innovative AI-powered platform designed to make Algerian tax and legal information more accessible, practical, and efficient. Through Tax Online, Salim's goal is to empower CFOs, lawyers, tax advisors, and business leaders with the information and tools they need to make informed decisions and maintain regulatory compliance.
As Chairman of the Board of Directors of SPA AZZOUZ AUDIT & TAX FIRM and Managing Director of Cabinet d’Audit AZZOUZ, Salim has led teams dedicated to delivering high-quality services in audit, taxation, strategic advisory, and financial consulting.

What first drew you to this profession—a specific moment, or something that built over time?
Our firm was founded in 1973 by my father, Mohamed Azzouz, so I grew up in this environment, shaped by
accounting rigour and a strong sense of independence. It wasn't so much a single moment as a legacy: the drive
to carry on and modernise a family firm while giving it an international dimension.
What’s the most rewarding part of the job?
Supporting businesses and investors, both Algerian and foreign, at key moments in their development, and
seeing the tangible impact our analysis has on their strategic decisions.
What’s the most challenging aspect?
Day-to-day team management, alongside the complexity and constant evolution of Algerian tax regulation,
balancing technical demands with people management on a daily basis.
What’s a book, podcast, or resource that’s shaped how you think about your work?
Reading the publications and reviews of the Big4 firms on a regular basis, a valuable way to keep up with the
evolution of international standards and measure them against realities on the ground in Algeria.
What’s a skill or area you’re hoping to develop further?
Developing technology-driven solutions for the profession, that's the whole purpose behind TAX ONLINE,
Algeria's first AI-powered tax and legal LegalTech platform, which I launched recently.
What’s the most interesting cross-border matter you’ve worked on?
Supporting the establishment in Algeria of a major international company in the Oil & Gas sector, a matter that
called for sharp expertise at the crossroads of business law, taxation, and Algeria's sector-specific regulation.
What excites you most about being part of a global network like this?
The opportunity to build real bridges between international investors and the Algerian market, a market still not
well understood by many foreign players, yet rich in opportunities for those who know how to navigate it.
If you could give one piece of advice to someone just starting out in your profession, what would it be?
Read widely, and never stop learning, this is a profession that keeps evolving, and staying constantly informed
makes all the difference.
Was there a person who influenced your career path, and how?
My father, above all. He embodied rigour and seriousness, and I deeply admired his independence.
If you hadn’t gone into this field, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
Most likely a business lawyer.
What’s a misconception people often have about what you do?
That our profession allows us to live without stress, when in reality the responsibility we carry for our clients
weighs on us constantly.
What’s a skill from outside your profession that’s turned out to be surprisingly useful in it?
My personal research interests in law and technology/IT.
Is there a case or piece of work you’re particularly proud of (without breaking confidentiality)?
Beyond helping establish and support several multinational companies in Algeria, I'm particularly proud of my
presence and published articles in the national press.
What’s something that surprised you the first time you worked across a different jurisdiction?
The sheer level of organisation and the high quality standards these matters demand.
What do you wish clients understood before working across borders?
The importance of anticipating local regulatory specifics rather than applying international standards as-is, and of
being well guided by experienced professionals.
Outside of work, what’s something you’re currently curious about or learning?
Improving my command of English, and artificial intelligence.
How do you like to switch off after a demanding case or project?
With scuba diving sessions.
What’s a value or principle you try to bring to every piece of work you take on?
Independence and rigour, but above all transparency with the client, flagging it from the outset if I sense their
project carries risk.
Where do you hope your practice/career is headed in the next few years?
Toward the growth of TAX ONLINE and international expansion, particularly through our presence in Paris and
our IR Global and Cross Border Advisory Solutions networks.
What’s one thing about your city or country that clients are often surprised to learn?
How easy it is to connect with people, and how much untapped ground there still is for new projects.
