My father pioneered private investigation in India, so in many ways, it runs in the blood. However, I found my own niche and developed my interest over time. I was drawn to the fact that every case begins with unanswered questions, and that careful investigation can turn uncertainty into clarity. Over the years, I came to appreciate the unique combination of instinct, experience and evidence that this profession requires.
The most rewarding part is helping a client see the full picture. Sometimes, one verified fact can protect a business, resolve a dispute or prevent a serious loss. In personal matters, the truth can clear misunderstandings and sometimes even save a marriage. Knowing that our work helps people make informed decisions gives it real purpose.
Investigations rarely begin with complete or reliable information. The challenge is to separate facts from assumptions while working discreetly, ethically and often under time pressure. It is also important to recognise the limitations of an investigation. Even when we want to help, experience sometimes tells us that a case is unlikely to succeed. After 40 years in the profession, I have developed a strong instinct for what can realistically be achieved.
My greatest resource has been experience itself—real cases, conversations with investigators and lessons learnt in the field. Every case teaches you something new about people, risk and the importance of looking beyond the obvious. In this profession, the field is often the best classroom.
I am particularly interested in keeping pace with modern investigative techniques and continually learning how technology, artificial intelligence and open-source intelligence can strengthen our work. The aim is to combine these tools with human judgement and field intelligence.
One of the most interesting matters involved following a complex trail across several countries, with information, individuals and business interests spread across different jurisdictions. It required close coordination with trusted local professionals while navigating different laws, languages and working cultures. The case was a strong reminder that information may cross borders quickly, but trust must still be built carefully.
It brings together global reach and local understanding. A strong international network allows us to take on assignments across borders, exchange knowledge and work with trusted professionals who understand the realities on the ground. It has greatly expanded the number of jurisdictions in which we can operate effectively and with confidence.
Stay curious, but never jump to conclusions. Listen carefully, verify everything and protect the trust placed in you. A good investigator does not look for the quickest or most convenient answer—they look for the answer that can be supported by facts.
