Biography

Dr. Dominic Kohnen has been working as a specialist lawyer for construction law and real estate law since the beginning of his professional career and, through his many years of nationwide and international experience, is a highly qualified expert in construction law and all related fields.

In addition to advising and representing clients, contractors, architects and engineers in their specific matters, a key focus of his legal activities is providing legal advice to public and private clients, investors and contractors during the execution of complex construction projects; this in both national and international legal contexts.

As a trained business coach, Dr. Kohnen works as a non-partisan project coach in complex construction projects, focusing solely on project success and de-escalation, conflict avoidance, and other objectives.

Life

  • Dr. Kohnen studied law in Freiburg, Paris and Bonn and has been a lawyer since 1996 after completing his legal traineeship in Düsseldorf, Speyer, Tel Aviv and Brussels.
  • He was an assistant to the former acting judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, Professor Dr. Peter M. Huber.

  • Arbitrator and dispute adjudicator: he is listed on the list of arbitrators under the Arbitration Rules for Construction (SGO Bau) as well as on the list of international FIDIC dispute adjudicators at the Association of Consulting Engineers in Berlin (VBI).
  • In addition to his work as a lawyer specializing in construction law, Dr. Dominic Kohnen is a lecturer and, not least, co-founded a Master's program in Real Estate Management (Bauhaus University Dessau); in another Master's program dealing with legal issues of project management in international large-scale plant construction (FAU Erlangen/Nuremberg), he taught the next generation of project managers about international construction contract law.
  • Dr. Kohnen regularly publishes specialist articles in various publications.
